CLIENT: Kettle Head Popcorn

Hand Popped in Denver, CO.

Illustration | Logo Update | Package Design | Marketing Collateral

This delectable, melt-in-your-mouth popcorn was in need of an update. It was time to upgrade from clear bags with a sticker, to fully printed bags. We worked with Kettle Head to transform their harsh black branding and bring a more light and airy feel, while highlighting their Denver roots. We updated their logo, created packaging for their 17 SKUs, and created a few pieces of marketing material.

In the original brief, Kettle Head wanted to keep rich black as the core color in their branding and packaging. While working through our concepting phase, we strongly advised Kettle Head to stray away from black and work towards more inviting colors that evoke the airy nature of popcorn. We also believed the harsh black was reminiscent of Smartfood popcorn, an unhealthy and processed popcorn option.

Once the general layout was chosen, we explored many different options for the mountain illustration.

After we chose the simplistic line work illustration for the mountains, it was time to explore the colors for all 17 SKUs. This was a very tricky part of the process. With the amount of flavors, we knew that some colors would need to be repeated; however we had to be sure that each flavor color was different enough to avoid confusion.

We created a few pieces of marketing collateral to get them started with their cohesive, beautiful new brand.
